.xxx domains officially approved by ICANN
Even though the approval of .xxx domains raised a lot of concerns in the world wide web world, after 10 years of rejecting the .xxx TLDs, ICANN finally approved what it is called “the new gold rush”. Those new Internet domain names are especially meant for pornography website and they are meant to be a “red light district” for the online industry.
One of the best arguments for approving this TLDs was the fact that they could keep the adult industry far away from teenagers eyes. After pending the registration since 2003, the .xxx are finally here, changing the rules in the online pornography environment.
The company that will manage the .xxx domain names is ICM Registry and it seems there is quite a lot of work ahead: over 230,000 adult domain names ending with .xxx were reserved and according to Stuart Lawley (ICM Registry CEO), the first .xxx sites will be online in June or July this year.
The approval of these TLDs means a new era for the barrier between online adult industry and youngsters while it will be more difficult for minors to reach on sexual content websites, of course, without their solely will.
Although many rumours said these domain names will cost quite more when compared to the usual .com, anyone trying to register a .xxx domain will have to pay an yearly fee of no more than $10, a bargain for domain names hunters. Getting the green light for .xxx domain will change online things, if in better or worse, this is to be seen in the future.
